Side by Side hosts Mesibas Siyum to celebrate the graduation of its pupils

Special needs school Side by Side has celebrated the graduation of its mesivta pupils with a Mesibas Siyum this week.

At the siyum, teachers, staff, parents and families of the graduates were addressed by Rabbi Feldman of Side by Side, who praised their dedication to the boys’ progress and development and the role they have played in bringing each pupil to this point.

In the run up to the siyum, many of the boys studied a short piece of Gemara to mark the occasion and during the siyum, they recited a Kapitel Tehillim. Each pupil had the opportunity to share a few words and many expressed their excitement for the future but also their sadness to be leaving the school which had become like home. Some of the boys presented certificates to demonstrate their completion of additional ASDAN qualifications in core skills such as teamwork, communication, problem solving, research and self-management.

In addition to the words shared by Rebbeim and students, one parent spoke of the love and warmth that they had felt from the school and the personal touches that made each child feel cherished and special.

Following this, the graduates delighted parents with a choir that they had been practicing for the last few months. The siyum concluded with a presentation of thanks made to Mrs Lichtenstein, the ASDAN coordinator at Side by Side and the class Rebbes.

Gerald Lebrett, Headteacher of Side by Side, said: “Every child that walks through the doors at Side by Side brings their own unique and special personality.  Our graduates tonight have shown a tremendous ability to shine in their own special way and give so much joy to everyone who get to know them. The wonderful team at Side by Side have worked tirelessly to educate and support the young people to build the confidence, knowledge and skills so that each child leaves our school ready as young adults for the next stage of their journey.  I am so proud of this class for all they have accomplished. Even when they may have found the work difficult, they continued to strive and achieve.  They are a credit to their parents, school and community.”

Mrs Weil, mother of Side by Side graduate Moishe, said: “Side by Side hasgiven my childmuch more than I ever thought possible. They have learnt, made friends and developed useful skills which they will take forward into their life. Thank you and mazal tov.”
