We were delighted to welcome the Chelsea Pensioners to Side by Side School as part of our whole-school project on London and our SMSC curriculum.

In the lead-up to the visit, pupils learnt about the history and role of the Chelsea Pensioners during class lessons, helping them to prepare for the experience and engage meaningfully with our visitors.

The Pensioners delivered a presentation to our older classes, sharing stories and insights about their lives, service, and experiences. Pupils listened attentively, asked thoughtful questions, and showed great respect throughout.

Following the presentation, the Pensioners toured the school and visited a range of classes, where they had the opportunity to meet pupils and staff and learn more about the work we do at Side by Side School to support children with special needs through personalised approaches and nurturing support.

The visit provided a valuable opportunity for pupils to connect their classroom learning to real-life experiences, while encouraging respect, appreciation, and understanding of the wider community.
