Black History Month

Side by Side proudly participated in Black History Month (BHM), which was celebrated by the children across our school. Our students studied the lives of Black leaders who have made an impact on their communities and the world, key figures in sports, politics, and human rights. The younger years participated in a range of fun, hands-on activities, such as cooking and eating the African banana-type vegetable, plantain. Additionally, we were delighted to welcome The African Community School who visited Side by Side. They staged an insightful presentation on African geography for the pupils, and then held a dynamic music class, allowing us the opportunity to play a variety of new instruments; it was truly unique and eye-opening (or “ear-opening”!) for our students. The Month proved to be a wonderful success and the children were fascinated, focused, and certainly had fun!
