Top class at Side by Side were very involved in the elections! We learnt lots about the general elections and the various parties and their manifestos.  Students looked at leaflets of the candidates and what they have to offer! To feel really part of it, we set up our very own polling station at the school!

We created 2 parties –

·         "For me"  party  on the idea that each boy deserves to have things he needs provided by the school  and as well that each boy appreciates what the school does for him.

·        "Together"  party  on the idea that school is a community and we each need to think about others’ needs. So each boy must ask himself what can he do for the community – the school.

The top class worked together to develop manifestos and we enacted the entire election process  - with poll cards for all students and staff, speeches about their manifestos, posters and  voting.

This was all done as a project for their ASDAN Employability  studies  - Working with others. Each boy had a specific role  and responsibility but they also helped each other.

On the day our polling station was exactly like a real one and the voting went smoothly.  They counted the votes and announced the winner the next day .

As a final part of this project  - which encompassed citizenship and work skills  -   we went to a local polling station where one of our students actually voted.
